Day 3: The Greatest Gift in My Life

Hello, it’s January 14, 2021. For my writing challenge, previously it was paused on the day 3. Now, I want to continue that. Because I read an article from this web, saying, you can change your life from the smallest thing, which can be the habits or daily routines. I know I said I wanted to make writing as part of my daily routine, but then I skipped a day or two, or more, now that I’m being reminded again, I would start writing at this moment. For the topic, to be honest, I lost the original image for my daily writing challenge guide so now I’m using a new one. The day 3 said: What is the greatest gift I ever received?

Thinking about the greatest gift, I would have difficulties choosing a specific gift as in an “item” because honestly, the euphoria I felt when I got the gift is no longer here. It was temporary. Sure, it made me happy at the moment and made me think “this is the greatest gift I’ve ever received”, but for me labelling an item as “the greatest gift” is not necessary. I can say it’s a cool gift or an amazing gift, but I would not say it’s the greatest. Why? Because to be the greatest means it can not be changed even though time passes. Thinking about the meaning of the “greatest” for me, it gave me the answer that the greatest gift I’ve ever received is the way my life is. It’s such a deep answer to a simple question, but for me, labelling how I was born and live my life until where I am now the greatest gift I’ve ever received is more worthy.

It can sound a little bit religious, to think of the way God creates fate for people to be born in different ways and the way they live their lives reveal how they value their own meaning of life. To be honest, I’m still searching for my own meaning of life and what my purpose is. But I’m sure I’m getting there. One thing I know for sure, I want to be useful in this life. I may not feel that way now, but I know I will someday.

As I’m saying, my life is the greatest gift I’ve ever received from God. It is important to feel grateful, there are many things that we should be grateful about but we just don’t notice it. I feel grateful that I was born to be me, my own version of a human. No one else is like me, no one’s life is exactly the same as me, and for that, I feel grateful and special. I feel grateful of how I look, of the family I was born into, of the place and town I grew up and live in, of the people I meet in my life, and of all the ways and things that made my life. I feel grateful, Alhamdulillah.

I may say and write this and sound like the way I am because I am lucky. I realize that not all people are born to be as lucky as I am, but what I want to say is, I hope people can value their life as the greatest gift too and find all the things that they can be grateful about each day of their lives.
